What does a book interior design involve?

These are some of the elements/considerations to design a print book:

  • Typography. It is selected to match the genre of the book, and its sizing and margins are settled in a consistent way so readers can visually understand the hierarchy of the text.
  • Page headers. Usually even pages display the title of the book in italics on top, while odd pages feature the name of the author.
  • Chapters are usually set to start on the right (odd page).
  • Chapter first pages usually don't have headers.
  • Page numbers, usually on the bottom, can be centered or on the outside margins.
  • Table of contents.
  • Title page, usually matching the typographic treatment they have in the cover.
  • Margins, depending on the trim size, it is important for aesthetics that the text be framed following certain rules, and depending on page count, to include a glue margin.

How to order

  • The manuscript must be finished, i.e. edited and proofread. As we know that most author's happen to find typos when seeing the document formatted, we include in the service a few later corrections, but a small fee will be added if you needed more.
  • We can work with most word processors; if the file format you upload had any issues, we will let you know first.
  • If your manuscript is in PDF, please request a special quote.
  • If your book has up to 10 images and no tables or other special elements, the interior book design service fee is $ 150; otherwise please request a special quote.
  • If, in addition to publishing the print version of your book, you are planning to publish a digital version, we can design and produce an ePub file file for an extra $100 fee, just make sure you check this option when filling out the form.

The above considerations are standard, but the final look of the book will depend on your feedback. After we clean the text and build the first draft, we will interact with you updating the design upon your requests, until you are happy.
