Book cover design

Don't settle for a cover, get a bestseller's look!

About the design process

The beauty of working with authors is that they have great communication skills... So before starting each project we encourage them to tell us as much about their book as they can. The most we know about the book, the fastest we get to nail the cover concept.

As a guideline to the information you could share, consider the following:

  • The book's genre (fiction, non fiction, historical novel, chit-lit, true crime, fantasy, etc)
  • The intended target (what kind of reader should be interested in your book)
  • The book's timeframe and location (when and where the story takes place)
  • The book's plot
  • The main characters physical description (how they look, how they wear, their overall attitude)
  • Whether there is a particular scene, element or concept that you think is relevant and should be featured in the cover.

Sometimes, authors come to us with an idea already in mind; although we will listen to that, we encourage you to summarize your book plot highlighting its key components, and to leave in our hands the cover concept and design resources. You will be impressed by the results!

We think communication is key, so you are welcome to ask as many questions as you need, and to send us all directions as detailed as you can. On the other hand, if you are busy and wish to delegate the whole process to us, that's OK too, we will adapt to whatever works best for you.

About the ordering process

These are the steps to place an order:

  1. Fill out the order form.
  2. You will get an email with:
    • The estimate of how long it will take for you to get the first drafts
    • A link to pay for the deposit (50% of the price).
  3. Once deposit payment is confirmed, we get to work.
  4. Withing a few days, we send you at least two drafts for you to choose, and we continue working upon your feedback and interacting with you until you are 100% satisfied with the final result.
  5. We send you the invoice for you to complete the payment, and the full size final cover afterwards.

If you have a non-standard request, like a very specific character creation for your cover, please request a special quote.

Deliverables

Ebook cover design

To publish a digital edition for your book. This is what you get:

  • At least two drafts, based on the information provided at the Order Form.
  • Changes until you're 100% happy!
  • A final JPEG file (1563px x 2500px) at 72dpi, ready to upload

Book cover design

To publish both a digital and a print version of your book. You get:

  • Everything included in the eBook cover design.
  • A PDF file with press resolution, including spine and backcover. (You need to have the interior finished, since the spine width depends on the final page count of the book. In addition to the page count, we need you to indicate us the book's trim size.)

About image copyright

We usually work with our own images, but if your book cover requires a very specific scene, we may get them from image databases like Shutterstock.

In such cases, there might be a restriction to publish/sell up to 250,000 copies in some cases (this restriction depends on our image provider's user agreements; usually you can waive it for an additional fee of $150 later on).

We also work with photos that are free for commercial use as long as we credit the photographer. If that were the case, we will provide you the necessary information for you to  include a line in the Copyright paragraph of your book in order to credit the Original Photograph.

We advice you to always inquiry about the elements used in the cover design, since typography, images and any graphic elements might be subject to copyright.
